AFP transports 140 giant clams to Bingag, Bohol
THE military yesterday morning provided the needed transportation for 140 giant clams from Bolinao, Pangasinan to Bingag, Bohol.
The giant clams or “Taklobo” as they are locally called are expected to attract other marine species by providing nutrition and shelter to small sea animals.
This venture is seen by the government of Bohol as a way to address poverty incidence which they emphasize as one of the root causes of insurgency.
This is also aimed at ensuring food security for the people of Bohol without sacrificing vital marine resources in protected areas.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) utilized four M-35 military and C-130 cargo plane to transport the 140 giant clams from Bolinao, Pangasinan to Bohol.
“The AFP is more than glad to participate in this noble endeavor and therefore shall conduct support operations through collaborative efforts to support Bohol’s advocacy in protecting our environment, specifically the preservation of marine resources in order to create social awareness among our countrymen,” AFP public affairs office chief Maj. Ramon Zagala said.
He added that military has earned the gratitude of the Bohol provincial government during the successful transport of the first 100 giant clam breeders to Bohol on Feb. 20.
