Karters laud Bohol track

-

THE level of competition in karting is expected to rise in the Visayas with the building of Kartways Sports Park and Resort in Panglao,Bohol.

Karters from Cebu competed in the second leg of the 2013 Kartzone series for the first time, and they hope their presence will drum up interest among locals and that Bohol will form a team that can join competitions.

“It shows karting has developed, the sport is growing. People are trying to understand the sport, not just the traditional sporting events such as basketball and others,” Kartzone race director Lord Seno said.

The 1.2-kilometer track was built by Dr. Doloreich Dumaluan and holds the distinction of being the longest purposebuilt track outside Luzon. It is considered similar to that of the Carmona Racing Circuit.

It is also the second karting race circuit in the Visayas after the Kartzone Race circuit in Cebu, which opened in 2000.

“We have received several inquiries from the locals. They showed interest to join, not in the second leg, but probably in the last leg. They will come over to observe,” said Lord Seno.

The last leg of the Kartzone series will be in October in Bohol.

With the growing interest in putting up several race tracks in different neighboring cities, Seno said there is a need for them to be aggressive in putting up a grassroots program. He said he plans to work with the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC), spearheaded by Edward Hayco.
