Old market to be opened

-

ALTHOUGH he was reluctant to accept the post, John Yre delos Reyes eventually gave in to the wish of his father, Talisay City Mayor-elect Johnny “JVR” delos Reyes, who wants to appoint him city administrator.

When he assumes office, John Yre said he will prioritize the return of vendors to the old Tabunok public market, among others.

The younger delos Reyes said his job is to ensure that his father's first 100 days will be productive and meaningful to Talisaynons.

He said he will meet with the City Hall department heads to determine the issues and concerns of the city.

Before accepting the job, he said, he consulted different sectors to get inputs.

The 31-year-old cus- toms broker said he asked lawyer-friends and his family for advice before accepting the post. He added that he wanted to make sure that his appointment would not be considered nepotism that will be exploited by his father's critics.

“It's a heavy task for someone like me,” said John Yre, the fifth son of JVR.

John Yre graduated with a degree in customs administration from the University of Cebu and has been working as a customs broker for nearly six years. He enrolled in a political science course and hopes to be a lawyer.

He said he will not hesitate to implement a revamp at City Hall to get rid of graft and corruption.

He acknowledged that once he becomes a public official his life will be open to criticism. “I'm not afraid. I have nothing to hide,” he said in Cebuano.
