Tatak UP Awards 2013 launched
THE search is on for the next batch of outstanding alumni of the University of the Philippines (UP).
The “Tatak UP Awards 2013” will be given to Cebu-based UP alumni who have distinguished themselves through exemplary contributions for at least three years.
Nominations are for any of eight categories, namely, law, public service and governance; business and entrepreneurship; arts, design and culture; science and technology (including information and communications technology); education; public health and medicine; media and communication; and social change and advocacy.
For the cluster of social change and advocacy, nominees may be cited for their contributions and/or breakthroughs towards (a) poverty alleviation and hu- man development, (b) peace and social cohesion, (c) gender equality or women empowerment, (d) community empowerment, (e) environmental conservation and sustainable development, and (f) institutional or corporate social responsibility.
The search was first launched in 2011, and is given out every two years to alumni who are either based in Cebu, or regularly do business or render service in Cebu.
Qualified to be nominated are UP graduates; those who must have earned at least 30 units of collegiate/graduate degree; non-UP graduates among the faculty who have taught for at least five years within the UP System; those who finished shortterm courses in any UP program; or for those in medicine, he or she has completed at least three years of studies.
Any individual, group or organization may nominate the alumni.
Nomination forms are available at the UP Alumni Association-Cebu chapter office in Lahug campus and look for Prof. Geofe Cadiz, UPAA secretary, or Prof. MicMic Bugash, secretary of the search and awards committee; and at the UP Press Bookstore in Lahug and look for Dr. Madrileña de la Cerna.

Deadline for submission of nomination forms is Sept. 30. The awarding is set in December.
