Suson takes pole in Singapore climbfest

-

CEBU's junior climber Jan Joseph “JJ” Suson topped the boys 17 under qualifying round to advance in today's finals of the Nus-Black Diamond Boulderactive 2014 at the Funan Digital Life Mall Main Atrium in Singapore.

Suson, who just turned 17 last month, is competing along with his older brother Joshua Suson and other two Cebuano sportsclimbers John Mark Corpus and Yan Endico.

According to Suson he didn't expect to land on top of his category especially with the presence of several tough opponents.

“Nakulbaan ko gamay kay nakakita ko na naay mga kusgan na ni apil but I wasn't intimated. Their presence challenged me to do my best,” said Suson.

Suson also placed fifth in the men's intermediate qualifiers, while his older brother Joshua also got into the finals in the novice category.

Suson made the perfect score of 6 points with only making one attempt in each six walls during the qualifying round. He was followed by Singaporean sports climbers Checuk Hei for second and Teo Sing Hao for third.

“I am hoping I can maintain my lead and win the title,” said Suson.

The tournament is an invitational bouldering competition participated by several foreign and local sports climbers where the challenge lies on the how the climbers can finish a climb within a stipulated time.

The final rounds are set today.
