CHI given sustainability award
PROPERTY developer Cebu Holdings, Inc. (CHI) was given a special recognition during the Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) Philippines 2014 held last July 14 at the Dusit Thani, Manila.
CHI is the only Cebubased company commended by the SBA for the company’s best practices in the Workforce Category.
The company garnered a high score in terms of employee development programs and other employee engagement activities.
A total of 1,316 volunteer hours were rendered by CHI employees through Earth Hour activities, Brigada Eskwela, tree care and tree growing, learning exercises for kids, dental missions and relief efforts in 2013.
Community
CHI is active in community engagement activities through its employee volunteer program which provides opportunities for employees to support the company’s community initiatives.
The company also provides alternative activities that add to an individual’s diverse competency beyond work hours through an employee wellness program dubbed, CHI Personality and Lifestyle Upliftment Strategy or CHI Plus.
The SBA, held for the first time in the country, aims to increase awareness on sustainable business best-practices and demonstrate how sus- tainable business benefits companies, the environment and all stakeholders.
The SBA uses a comprehensive framework in assessing business action through ten categories: strategy and vision; community development projects; energy management; water management; waste and material productivity; climate change policy and adaptation strategy; supply chain management; land use, biodiversity and environmental impact; business responsibility and ethics; and environmental disclosure. The categories are quantitative assessment of the companies’ environmental impacts.
Other awardees include the Ayala Group of Companies and Ayala Land Corporation for Strategy and Vision category, Globe Telecom for the workforce category and Honda Philippines for supply chain management category.
The final shortlist of winners were prepared by Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC) and were judged by leading sustainability experts as part of the National Advisory Panel. Judges included Sen. Loren Legarda, Ateneo School of Government Dean Tony LaVina, PCCI Secretary General Crisanto Frieneza, Philippines Stock Exchange CEO Hans Sicat, Philippines Business for the Environment Executive Director Bonar Laureto, ASSIST Asia Managing Director Sreenivas Narayanan, BusinessWorld Editor-in-Chief Roby Alampay and PwC Philippines Chairman Alex Cabrera.
