Bidlisiw awards

- LELANI P. ECHAVES (lelani.echaves@gmail.com)

AMONG the highlights of the Province of Cebu’s anniversary celebrations this year was the launching of the “Bidlisiw sa Sugbo” awards. Likened to the “bidlisiw,” or sunrays, that serve as beacon lights for travelers in dark or shadowed paths, the Province’s bidlisiws will refer to the institutions and individuals whose sterling performance is worthy of emulation.

The search is, thus, on for nominees believed to have contributed significantly to the Province’s development and welfare.

More particularly, their impact is alongside Cebu’s six-star development agenda: (1) health care and services, (2) countryside development, (3) education and technical/vocational training, (4) environmental protection, climate change and disaster and risk management, (5) infrastructure development and private sector cooperation, and (6) law and order.

The awards are open to all private individuals and institutions/organizations. Nominees should have operated for at least three ( 3) successive years and built a track record of service dedicated to uplifting the lives of people and communities in Cebu.

Criteria are service excellence and professionalism, impact of the nominees’ work on the community and society, and innovation and creativity.

The chosen board of judges is composed of community figures with respectable names and proven probity and expertise in their own fields.

For service excellence and professionalism in nominated organizations, the judges will look into compliance with standards or service-level agreements, adherence to ethical standards, responsiveness to customers and/communities, organizational culture and management effectiveness.

Impact on community and society will consider the number of people benefited, contribution to the communities’ wealth creation and business development, reach to vulnerable segment of society, and corporate social responsibility programs.

Innovation and creativity shall be gleaned from the development of pioneering products/ services/ processes, creative use of materials and resources resulting in higher levels of cost- effectiveness, and degree of applicability and replicability of innovations.

Official nomination forms are available at the Secretariat, Search and Awards Committee, c/o the Provincial Administrator’s Office, Cebu Provincial Capitol. These can also be downloaded from the website www.cebu.gov.ph.

Any individual, group, organization or association may nominate. Self-nominations, however, shall not be entertained.

The Secretariat will inform nominees who will then be asked to signify in writing their acceptance of the nomination. They shall then submit on a specified deadline all pertinent information, documents and other requirements to support the nomination.

The Search and Awards Committee, with or through its Secretariat, then conducts the initial screening, evaluation, profiling and validation. These will translate into the preparation of a short list of nominees.

The board of judges receives the nominees’ profiles towards final deliberation and drawing up the final list of awardees.

Awarding day is December. So name your own bidlisiws to the Province of Cebu. Nomination starts now!
