UC Law class holds storytelling session

-

As part of the global celebration of Shark Week, the University of Cebu (UC)College of Law together with the BASADOURS and OCEANA, participated in the country’s first Shark Summit. The summit was held last Aug 14 to 15 at the Cebu Capitol Social Hall.

To help raise awareness on the importance of sharks to the economy and the ecosystem, the team organized “Storytelling For Children About Sharks” last August 16, at the gymnasium of Barangay Looc, Mandaue City. Around 120 children attended the storytelling session and were given food, notebooks, pencils and crayons to take home.

The storytelling was about the important role that sharks play in the ecosystem.

Sharks are at the top of the food chain in virtually every part of the ocean. When the shark population declines, the marine ecosystem loses its balance. It is important to teach the young about the need for their protection and, as future leaders, be at the forefront in calling for action to promote sustainability of shark fisheries and trade and the marine environment as a whole.

The Basadours is a group of volunteers who are advocates for reading and storytelling while Oceana is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and revitalizing the world’s oceans.

Let us be friends of sharks. #migosaiho.
