Eagles, Lancers face off
Undefeated UV Green Lancers, SHS-AdC Eagles face off in Cesafi semis
ALL eyes will be on the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles and the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers game today in the semifinal round of the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) High School Basketball Tournament in Cebu Coliseum.
Prior to the much-awaited standoff, winless squads Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers will face each other in the 4 p.m. game. The SHS-AdC vs. UV game is at 5:15.
Both the Magis Eagles and the Baby Lancers are carrying a 2-0 win-loss card and the winner today will gain the early leadership at the close of the first of the double-round robin semifinal round.
The game will hinge Zacky Huang and Jan-Jan Jaboneta, the two remaining Eagles who have served the team for the past three years.
While Jaboneta is expected to be the main scoring machine of coach Rommel Rasmo, Huang will be the team’s anchor in defense and in offensive rebounding.
Huang had improved much this year and his imposing presence down low could become a problem for coach Delfin Pepito.
UV will also need to curtail the production of rookie center Joshua Sinclair but Pepito will have somebody who could limit the Fil-Australian tower in his own Fil-German center, Sam Schaub, who prove his worth when UV defeated the Wildkittens last Thursday.
Rasmo, on the other hand, will need somebody who can contain UV’s backcourt duo – JC Escalona and Orlan Wamar.
In their elimination round meeting, UV rallied from a 19-point deficit before losing 7471 last Aug. 19.
