Pa charged with abuse for not supporting 5 kids

-

Every time the children ask for money from the accused, he would allegedly tell his children that they will not get anything from him

A MAN who has been separated from his wife cannot not run away from his responsibility of being a father to his children.

For refusing to give financial support to his five children, an overseas worker will face trial after he was charged by the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office for violating Section 10(a) of Republic Act (RA) 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

Bail

Assistant City Prosecutor Van Russel Inopiquez found enough evidence to indict Adam (real name withheld) for this violation. Bail was set at P60,000. The person who charged Adam before the City Prosecutor’s Office was his uncle.

The accused is separated from his wife and his children are 12, 11, 9, 7, and 6.

Insult

“(Adam) is living with another woman and he will not allow his children to live with him,” said the uncle in his affidavit.

“Every time I and his children would ask him to give support, he would insult us. He told his children that they would never get anything from him,” said the complainant.

Inopiquez resolved the complaint filed by Adam’s uncle after the accused failed to submit his counter-affidavit.

Cruelty

RA 7610 defines child abuse as maltreatment of a minor, which includes “psychological and physical abuse, neglect, cruelty, sexual abuse and emo- tional maltreatment” and “any act by deeds or words which debases, degrades or demeans the intrinsic worth and dignity of a child as a human being.”

Needs

Section 10(a) of the law punishes any person who commit “any other acts of child abuse, cruelty or exploitation or to be responsible for other conditions prejudicial to the child’s development.”

For Adam’s uncle, he said the respondent’s “acts and conduct caused unreasonable deprivation of his children’s basic needs for survival, such as food and shelter.”
