A GROUP of cooperatives in Lapu-Lapu City will offer free livelihood skills training in celebration of the Cooperative Month.
More than 1,500 people are expected to avail themselves of the trainings from Oct. 22 to 24, said Jimmy Glomar, officer-in-charge of the Lapu-Lapu City Cooperative and Livelihood Resource Center.
The trainings, mostly on food-making, will be held at the Lapu-Lapu City Sports Complex.
The center will hold the activities in partnership with the Lapu-Lapu City Federation of Cooperatives (LCFC).
Glomar said among the sectors they expect to participate in the trainings are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and senior citizens.
4Ps
The 4Ps is the National Government's flagship anti-poverty program.
Its beneficiaries receive stipends for the education of their children and the health of the family.
The federation holds the trainings every year with the support of the City Government.
The trainings include how to make powdered detergent soap and dishwashing liquid, as well delicacies such as binangkal, puto cheese, siopao and siomai.
Aside from the livelihood skills trainings, the group will also organize a food and trade fair, which will be participated by the Kababayen-an sa Opon nga Nagkahiusa Alang sa Kalamboan and other cooperatives.
There will also be a free two-hour seminar on business planning on Oct. 22 and 24, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Trainings
Activities also include cooperative trainings on Oct. 25 and 26.
For the training, the LCFC will charge a registration fee of P400.
On Oct. 26, the group will hold a fun run from 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. Prizes will range from P500 to P3,000.
Glomar said they will charge a registration fee of P200 per participant, and that the proceeds will be used to support cooperatives under the federation.
The LCFC, formed in 2010, is composed of 45 cooperatives with over 15,000 members.
It has P4 million in assets, including P800,000 cash.
