Rain fails to dampen Pink Run participan­ts

DESPITE the rain, more than 700 runners clad in pink-striped singlets remained in high spirits as they joined the eighth edition of Pink Run, an event that advocates Breast Cancer Awareness, yesterday at the Ayala Terraces.

“It gives us hope. If everybody is with us we feel that we are not alone,” Mary Ann Solomon, the IcanServe Foundation Cebu Coordinato­r, told Sun. Star Cebu after the race. “We are given courage and love because of this run and from the overwhelmi­ng support of the community.”

The footrace, which featured 3-kilometer, 6K and 12K distances, was part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Cebunano runners Ian Refuela and Jade Abellana reigned in the 12K men’s and women’s open divisions.

Refuela won in 46 minutes and 46 seconds over Desederio Ingbino, who clocked 48:40. Edzel Ardiente crossed the finish line in 51:28 to take third place. In the women’s side, Abellana got the title in 1:02:59, while Jinggay Lugay came in second in 1:05:50. Triathlete Naya Aldeguer salvaged third place in 1:07.

Kenyan runner Francis Kakui dominated the 6K men’s open in 23:21, beating Junrey Andales by one minute and eight sec- onds. Jay Chan finished in 27:59 for third place. The women’s division was won by Alfie Buenaflor in 33:38. She was followed by Desiree Salas (37:32), and Sam Yong (38:22).

In the 3K open category, JR Baclaan (13:15) won the men’s division, Dandy Jody (13:16) got the second place, and Dreamer Hong (18:48) placed third. The top three in the women’s division were Mica Caballes (19:10), Cindy Abot (20:05) and Jenifer Savellon (20:37).

The competitio­n also had a doctors’ category, with Brian Belandres (1:09:42) nabbing the 12K men’s title. Mateo Tigpos (1:16:01) got second place, and Axcel Elesis (1:16:08) salvaged third place. The women’s winners were Marivic Tan (1:11:32), Weda Lim (1:25:38) and Rosely Yu (1:28:18).

The top three in the other doctors’ categories are Harem Deiparine (31:10), Vince Cabahug (31:22) and Benito Patcho (36:29) in men’s 6K; Dysserie Palermo (38:39), Cherrie Apiag (41:31) and Denise Lim (50:07) in the women’s 6k; Jin Cabanag (39:03), AJ Cagulada (39:04), Jarvic Collantes (42:23) in the men’s 3K; and Abegail Alfeche (43:34), Anafe Buslon (1:02:07) and Minie Monteclaro (1:06:38) in the women’s 3K.
