High on All Hallow’s Eve

- By Karl Aries Emerson F. Cabilao

It’s supposed to be a time when things go bump into the night and that you’re supposed to just stay under the blankets and wish they would just go away. But here is one reason why one should go out and have fun a few days before Halloween.

Remember the group that brought everyone in “hyper” mode last May? Yes, they’re back and what better time to do so when everyone needs to transform the fear and spooks of the occasion into one big outdoor party. Hyper Cebu collaborates with the Junior Chamber International of Cebu and the Mandaue City Government to bring to you #HYPERHALLOWEEN this October 24 to 26, 2014 at the Parkmall grounds in Mandaue City.

Fueled by volunteerism and geared toward charity, the event is for everyone—foodie, techie, musiclover, blogger or any one who wants to party. What’s a party without the food? At HyperHalloween, food will be everywhere to satisfy the zombie-like appetite. Expect no “dead air” too with the indie music festival that’s expected to keep the atmosphere in the venue full of energy. Then of course, true to the Hyper tradition, there’s the much anticipated rave party where 25 of Cebu’s best DJs from the nine of the most popular clubs here will get everyone all pumped up.

In addition to all the activities that would bring back all the fun in last summer’s hyper event, there is the Zombie Run, a surefire hit for fitness buffs who’d love to put on their running shoes and sweat it out in 1.6k, 3k and 5k distances. To jive with the Halloween vibe, there would be military obstacles and a zombie survival arena. Registration is at P300, P350 and P400, respectively, at Runnr in Ayala Center Cebu.

Proceeds for #HyperHalloween will be for the Central Visayas Search & Rescue Group Incorporated, BIDSILIW Foundation (an agency focused on helping the urban poor), COLORS (or Coalition for the Liberation of Reassigned Sex, a group for an empowered transgender community), and TEDX University of San Carlos. For more info about tickets and the event itself, you may send an email to hypercebu@ gmail.com or find them in Facebook (hypercebu). Surely, this would make your Halloween this year a fun and relevant one.
