Talisay to consult vendors on new market project
City Government to take out P350M loan for its construction
TALISAY City officials and vendors of the Tabunok Public Market agreed to come up with a detailed feasibility study before the City builds a new market.
During a public hearing at the Talisay City Hall yesterday morning, close to 100 vendors who attended agreed that a new public market must be constructed in Tabunok, despite contrasting views.
Authority
Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante, who was present at the hearing, said that by next week, the City Council will come up with a resolution that will autho-

rize Mayor Johnny de los Reyes to take out a bank loan amounting to P350 million for the market’s construction.
Villarante said they’ve placed a ceiling on the loan amount to ensure that the City will only borrow P350 million.
The City has yet to decide whether to borrow from the Land Bank of the Philippines or the Development Bank of the Philippines.
The vendors, though, were divided as to how the City will construct the market and how the project will be financed.
Sherwin Echaves, head of the Tabunok Public Market vendors, said the City shouldn’t take out a P350-million loan.
Assurance
Echaves said the City can always rely on its annual income to finance the project.
However, Paul Labalan, who used to be the group’s spokesperson, said there’s no need to build a new market.
He urged the City to retrofit and repair the old facility.
De los Reyes, in a separate interview, said they are considering all of the vendors’ comments as part of the consultation process before they implement the project.
Villarante said they plan to build a three-story facility using the modern public market in Naga City, Camarines Sur as template.
He assured that vendors will be part of the project’s planning process.
