Cebu to host best chess players from Visayas in national age group chess championships

CEBU City will host the annual National Age-Group Chess Championship Visayas Elimination on March 1-5.

The tournament, which will be named 2015 Gov. Hilario Davide III National Age Group Chess Championship Visayas Qualifying Leg, will be held at the Robinsons Cyber Gate Event Center.

Tournament organizers the National Chess Federation of the Philippines is ex- pecting to gather hundreds of hopefuls from the 28 provinces and 35 cities and 369 municipalities to vie for spots in the national finals on April 12 in Marikina.

The tournament will have the Boys and Girls Under 20, Under 18, Under 16, Under 14, Under 12 and Under 8 age groups.

The qualifiers to the National tournament will get the chance to play in the Asean Age Group tournament in Singapore in June.

Aside from the slots to the National Finals the winners of the categories up to the 10th placer will get cash prizes and medals.

The top three winners in the Under 20, Under 18 and Under 16 categories will get P3,000, P1,500 and P1,000.

The top placers in the Under 14 and Under 12, will get P2,000, P1,000 and P700, while the winners in the Under 10 and Under 8 divisions will get P400 and P350.

Cash prizes the Boys Divisions are P3000, P1500, P1000, P750 and P500 for the U-20, U-18 and U-16 categories; P2000, P1000, P750, P500 and P400 for the U-14 and U-12 and P1000, P750, P500 and P400 and P350 for the Boys U-10 and U-8 class will be handed to the champion up to the fifth placers.

All top five finishers will get a medal, while the sixth to the 10th finishers in all categories will receive P300 consolation prizes.

Participants must register online on or before Feb. 28 and pay the registration fee of P300. They are also required to send a copy of their birth certificates, accomplished registration form and deposit slip that signified payment to NCFP bank account.
