THE livelihood projects of the Ang Nagahanong-gasasaKabataan (AnakNaga) program of the City of Naga, Cebu got a boost through the funding support of one of its partners, Kepco SPC Power Corp.

KSPC president Chang Yong Cho turned over the check worth P162,830.75 to Mayor Valdemar M. Chiong in a ceremony held recently at the Multi-Purpose Hall A, City Hall Building.

“What we are contributing here is not much, but with your full commitment and perseverance, this may go a long way to make a difference in the lives of your respective families,” said Cho, in his speech.

The Anak-Naga is a sub-project of the Millennium Development Goals-Family Based Actions for Children and their Environs in the Slums (MDG-Faces). Its primary intention is to improve the quality of life of the selected families and their children living in the slums.

The Department of Interior and Local Government-Local Government Academy granted P300,000.00 to the City Government of Naga for this program. In turn, the City forged a partnership with the Department of Education and Kepco SPC Power Corp. for the full implementation of the project.

The City Government has selected 40 families in Sitio Seaside, Barangay North Poblacion as the pioneering beneficiaries of the project.

The KSPC president said that the national government was right in choosing the City of Naga as the recipient of the program. Cho said he is confident that its goals and purpose will be achieved under the leadership of Mayor Chiong.

He described Anak-Naga as another laudable program of the City “that truly serves the people of our fast progressing City.”

“We are happy to be a part of the Anak-Naga Program because its target beneficiaries, the families in economical difficulty and their children, always have the soft spot in our hearts,” he added.

In his response, Mayor Chiong thanked KSPC for its funding support as he hopes that the harmonious relationship and partnership between the City Government and the power generation firm management will continue for the mutual benefits of all.

He reiterated his call for the Anak-Naga beneficiaries to remain committed to their duties for the whole program. By doing their part, the mayor added, means improvement of their economic conditions for the community and their families.

The mayor assured that the AnakNaga will be replicated to other barangays, such as West and South Poblacion, once the project and its good practices are proven successful in Sitio Seaside.
