VALENTINE (E)SCAPES
No matter how cynical you can be when it comes to romantic traditions for the rest of the year, Valentine’s Day gets to be a special day, whether it come off as a time for celebrating new loves or commemorating old gashes that were. For the hopeless romantic, the cinema is a guaranteed good escape especially when you have the funniest company.
That Thing Called Tadhana (TTCT) was the first Filipino I watched this year and truth to tell, in a long time. I am not proud of that personal fact but I am making it a conscious effort now on my part to be aware of good local films (well, relying on my friends’ reviews) and to make sure that I go out and support them by watching them in the movie house. I have to say that TTCT was a great laugh and cheesy trip through and through. It deserves the traffic of gushing remarks in our social media mill. While I am very skeptical that the first cinematic adaptation of the Fifty Shades trilogy will be in the same territory as Linklater’s trilogy, there is only one way to find out as it is now showing in theaters nationwide.
Starry, Starry Night
It may have been raining as of late but it does not stop many of us from wanting to have dinner under a blanket of stars. The second-floor terrace of Pizzeria Michelangelo in Mango Square is nice place for an outdoor meal, thanks to the mood lighting brought by the star-shaped lights. If pizza and pasta is not for you, then you can always indulge in a “Heart Attack” burger at the Burger Bar in the same square.
I Heart You
Wanting to upload a cheesy photo of the both of you just because it’s Heart’s Day? Well, SM City Cebu may just have your needs in mind. Check out the life-size hearts that are on display in the Northwing area. If you are still hunting on what to give to him or her, the Valentine Bazaar at the lower ground floor of the same mall is a convenient place to start.
Get Spotted
If the mall is where you are headed for Valentine’s Day anyway, grab your pair of Havaianas and hope to get spotted in Ayala Center Cebu or SM City Cebu. You will get a gift from the flipflops brand for wearing their original pair. What’s more, have your partner wear his or her pair just as well and hope for a double win!
