Bogo City residents air concerns during ‘consultative meeting’

-

THE two most common concerns raised during a meeting with Capitol officials in Bogo City were the lack of hospital beds and road repair.

However, Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said these have been acted upon.

Dr. Zoraide Yurango, chief of the Provincial Hospital in Bogo City, told them the facility is a 50-bed hospital, but it accommodates 120 patients.

She said they need 12 more nurses to add to the current staff of 25 and eight more doctors to add to the seven doctors that include her.

She also said their chief nurse should be a senior nurse, or a Nurse 4 category, but theirs is a Nurse 1 category.

Yurango, who used to be connected with the Severo Verallo Memorial District Hospital also in Bogo City, told the governor that they also need a defibrillator, cardiac monitor and electrocardiography.

She said only two doctors are on duty during the eight-hour shift.

In need of doctors

In her case, she takes on an eight-hour shift, plus being on duty for 24 hours when the need arises. She said the others are on call.

The Capitol requires all its doctors to hold a 40hour per week duty.

Davide said the Capitol is hiring additional doctors and medical personnel.

Dr. Cynthia Genosolango, Provincial Health Office head, said they are accepting applicants (for doctors) to fill vacant permanent positions.

“There are interested applicants, consultants and specialists, but the problem is they prefer hospitals near Cebu City,” she said in Cebuano.

She said the Provincial Hospital in Bogo City has a staff house for those who live outside the city.

Genosolango also said they are raising the salaries of medical officers and medical specialists, ranging from P40,000 to P50,000 a month.

Yurango said she hopes this will attract applicants.

Genosolango said she met with Department of Health 7 Director Jaime Bernadas to discuss increasing the Bogo hospital’s bed capacity. The project will be financed by a senator.

Meanwhile, barangay captains complained about dilapidated provincial roads, specifically in Barangays Siocon, Cayang, Anonang Norte, Dakit and Guadalupe.

Assurance

Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora said a farmto-market road will be built in Barangays Cayang and Anonang Sur as part of the Philippine Rural Development Project, a P200-million grant to Cebu from the World Bank.

The governor, for his part, said he will send a team to inspect the roads.

He also assured Bogo residents that the Capitol will buy heavy equipment in June that will be used in road projects. Until then, the Capitol will rent the equipment.

Davide said he also organized a task force to take care of road repair in local government units.

Meanwhile, Department of Education 7 Supt. Ninfa Bongo reminded the governor of the coming senior high school students, who will be in grades 11 and 12, in 2016.

Davide has agreed to meet with her to discuss the matter.

Also in attendance in yesterday’s meeting were Provincial Board Members Julian Daan, Miguel Magpale, ABC president Celestino Martinez III, Grecilda Sanchez, Alex Binghay, Sun Shimura, Joven Mondigo Jr., Christoper Baricuatro, Peter Calderon, Jude Sybico and Teddy Ouano.
