Cop was transferred on ‘request' of Mingla mayor
AMID reports of policemen involved in illegal activities, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 will check the background of SPO4 Razul Segismar, who was shot to death last Saturday in Barangay Poblacion Ward II, Minglanilla.
PRO 7 Director Prudencio Tom Bañas said that the investigation may help establish the possible motive of the ambush.
"There are so many factors that we have to look into before jumping to a conclusion," he said.
He said he is still waiting for the report from the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CCPO) before concluding whether the incident was personal or work-related.
CCPO Director Noel Gillamac revealed yesterday that Segismar, 48, was transferred to the Boljoon Police Station three months ago.
Gillamac said that there was a request from the mayor of Minglanilla town to transfer Segismar, following reports of his illegal activities, which the police official didn't elaborate.
CCPO is still verifying the veracity of the reports.
Gillamac said they are also focused on identifying the perpetrator, who ambushed Segismar while on his way home.
"Just imagine a police officer being killed in cold blood. There's must be a deeper reason," said Gillamac.
Yesterday, Minglanilla Police Station Chief Richard Gadingan submitted Segismar's mobile phone to the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) Visayas in a bid to identify the perpetrator. The Nokia mobile phone is password-protected.
Gadingan is positive that witnesses will soon come forward to help solve the crime.
"Nahadlok pa siguro karon. Mogawas ra unya na (Maybe they are afraid for now. Eventually they will come out)," he said.
When asked about some police personnel involved in illegal activities, Bañas didn't deny it.
He said they received reports from the community and are continuously validating it.
Some policemen have been dismissed from service for their illegal activities while others are facing administrative cases.
"In due time, if they won't stop, we will get them,” Bañas added.
