WEIWEI AHEAD, DIDN’T LOOK BACK
WEIWEI Gao defended the class A division crown after winning over Kim Kwang Seok, 7 and 5, in the finals of the 2015 Tournament of Aces at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club (AVGCC) last Saturday in Pardo, Cebu City.
The 15-year-old Gao was on a roll in the early going of the club’s annual championship, and was leading 8-up after 18 holes.
He rode on that momentum and never looked back and was up seven points with five holes left in their 36-hole match. With the insurmountable lead, Gao sealed the win at the 31st hole.
Class B
In the Class B Division, Ferdinand Chua won over Kim Tae Hwan, 4 and 2, in a match scheduled for 36 holes. The game was all square after the first 18 holes, but the former figured out ways to win in the pay off back holes.
Triathlete Alberto Solis showed off his golfing prowess to put himself among the clubs golf champions. Solis outsmarted senior golfer Sergio “Boy” Gonzalez, 3 and 1, on a 36-hole-match in Class C. Solis was already leading 1-up after 18 holes.
In the ladies class, the 13-year-old Junia Gabasa emerged over 11-year-old Weifang Gao, 12 and 11. Gabasa of Bright Academy was 8-up against the sister of Weiwei after 18 holes. The former sustained her lead and took the title in the 25th hole.
The captain of the Alta Vista seniors’ team in the Philippines (PAL) Interclub Hospicio “Razi” Razon flexed his muscles for the coming PAL competition tomorrow. He outsmarted Ramon Sebastian, 2 and 1, after 18 holes for the title in the seniors division.
