Vidal’s actions
When asked by reporters immediately after reading the National Transformation Council’s (NTC) statement on whether or not he supports the clamor for the resignation of President Noynoy Aquino, retired archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal replied, “It’s there in the first sentence.”
This was in response to the botched operation in Mamasapano resulting to the death of 44 Special Action Force (SAF) members. A statement of the NTC that Vidal also read in October last year called on President Aquino to step down following issues concerning the pork barrel scam and the President’s Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
In both instances, Vidal denied later when asked by reporters whether or not he supported NTC’s statements he previously read in public. Would a man in his right mind believe in Vidal’s ambiguous stand? What really is Vidal up to?
I understand Vidal’s failing health resulting in his being in and out of the hospital for medical assistance. But this surely doesn’t have to do with his in and out stand on the above-mentioned issues.
Thus, it is advisable for the Cebu Archdiocese spokesman, Msgr. Joseph Tan, to intervene for purposes of: first, advising Vidal to devote his remaining twilight years in prayers and reflection; second, to shield Vidal from people who are using his influence for their personal agenda.
We already acknowledge Vidal’s milestone in his all-out endeavors in both the religious and secular aspects. It’s time for him to delegate these things to more physically and mentally competent person(s), not necessarily priests. -- Sonny A. Rivera of Ward II, Minglanilla, Cebu
