SM bares run beneficiaries

-

THE upcoming SM2SM Run V will benefit two foundations, and one housing project in northern Cebu. The running event set this Sunday, Feb. 22, targets 5,000 runners from all over the country.

Proceeds of SM2SM Run V will help fund the projects of Children of Cebu Foundation, which runs the Pari-an DropIn Center in Cebu City. The foundation provides different kinds of support to the abandoned children seeking shelter.

Cebu City Councilor Margot Osmeña is the brainchild behind the drop-in center and the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children (CCTFSC), which is the foundation’s partner, is operating the center.

Another beneficiary is the Cebu Newspaper Workers Foundation (Cene- wof) Inc. located in Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center in DepEd Compound, Lahug, Cebu City.

Media industry

Cenewof aims to enhance the standards of journalism, promote professionalism and ensure the welfare of workers in the print media industry. When Cenewof established a Cebu press center, it was named in honor of the late Senate president Marcelo B. Fernan.

Today, the Marcelo B. Fernan Press Center, a major project of the foundation, now offers a mini-theater for the use not only of the media community, but also for the various organizations of the city that may need a venue for cultural events and performing arts presentations. It also has seminar rooms, a library with computer facilities, a media training laboratory, and the offices of the foundation and the Cebu Newscoop.

SM Cares Village–Bogo City is also one of the three beneficiaries of the event. The SM Cares Village in Barangay Polambato, Bogo City, Cebu has 200 houses, utilities, basic amenities like streetlights, community center and basketball court.

The run will start and end in SM City Cebu. Race route will include the South Road Properties going to the chapel of San Pedro Calungsod, and soon-to-open SM Seaside City Cebu. Gun time is at 5 a.m. for the 21K runners, 5:15 a.m. for the 12K runners and 5:30 a.m. for the 6K and 3K runners.
