To know right and to do right
The executive session that followed two Senate hearings looking into the Mamasapano massacre must be most revealing and compelling, considering that what was made public during the hearings were full of reticent information.
The high ranking officials of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines feared the legal morass they were entering, notwithstanding the administrative implications of their testimony,
What was revealed on the surface is nothing compared to the malarkey coming from the suspended general. We must look into the undercurrents as these are more dangerous and might lead us to a bellicose situation with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front who declared that it is still a revolutionary force pending the signing of the Bangsamoro Basic Law.
Regardless of the panache of sarcasm from Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago and the fusillade of righteous fury from the rest of the senators, and the taut atmosphere brought about by the revelation of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano on the alleged links of MILF to some terrorist organizations, it is imperative that President Noynoy Aquino sift through all of this information. There are already quarters that are taking advantage of the volatile situation especially with the upcoming national elections in 2016.
One political analyst said it is not enough that a national leader knows the right things ( matino) but he must also know to do things right ( mahusay).
The muzzling that happened between the uniformed men and the civilians during the Senate hearing cannot nullify the effect of non-coordination among those concerned. Justifications were presented but as Senator Santiago said, “Try telling that to the relatives of the fallen 44 SAF commandos.”
Coordination is part of the preparation. As a popular adage goes, “If we fail to prepare, we prepare to fail.” Yes, the operatives claim their mission was accomplished. They killed Marwan (an international fugitive) but at what cost? The lives of those left behind by those killed in action will never be the same.
