Group urges teams to field more entries for tri-team

-

TEAMS can now field in as many triathletes in their line up to vie for points in the Paramount Property Ventures Tri Team Championship Series 2015. The three-leg event kicks off with the first leg on March 29 at the Sugar Beach, Sante Fe, Bantayan Island, Cebu.

The change was announced by Sugbo Triathlon, the event’s organizer, during the press conference yesterday.

“The team may earn points per leg using the sum of the highest six scorers of the team. This only applies to standard distance as there is no team challenge for sprint individual/ relay and kiddie tri,” said Gimenez.

Gimenez added that if the team has seven or more triathletes, the remainder can still contribute for the team with one point a piece.

Unlike the previous stagings, the team challenge registration for this year is free and automatic. The participants with the same team name will be automatically enrolled as an official team entry.

The overall top three men’s and women’s finishers get the highest--the champion gets 40 points, while the second and third placers get 35 and 32 points respectively. For the age group, a triathlete can contribute as high as 30 points if he or she wins their class. Those who finished 20th or lower will get one point.

A team should have at least one scoring member for every leg to carry the points to the championship leg in Ormoc City on Oct. 4. The second leg is in Ronda, Cebu on Sept.13.

The race distances for this year remain the same, the standard has the 1.5-kilometer swim, 40K bike, and 10K run, while the sprint distance covres a 750-meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run.

Also present during the press conference wer Anton Regis, Arli Arenas-Vergara, and Jess Ariola.

Regis said they are going back to the age grouping to classify the triathletes. Last year the organizers used the leveling method which they admitted did not suit well for the participants.

The standard distance will be based on age group, the men’s division will have the 29-Under, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50-above age groups. The women’s divisions will have the 29-Under, 30 to 39, and 40-Above divison.

The sprint distance will have the men’s and women’s open and relay, while the kiddie tri will have the 13 to 15 years old, 11 to 12 bracket, 9 to 10 class and 8-Under age groups.

“This will be our first time to sponsor the Tri Team Championships and we have done this to help promote the sport of triath- lon in the country and in Cebu in particular. Our president is doing triathlon as well and will be lacing up for the race,” said Vergara, the sales and marketing director of Paramount Property Ventures.

The organizers said that triathletes who complete the three legs a souvenir frame.

The first leg of the event will be for the benefit of Ambulansiya Sumpay sa Kinabuhi (Ass) Project thru Sta. Fe Mayor Jose Esgana. Around 150 to 200 entries are expected to lace up for the event.

Registration fee is at P2,000 for the standard division, P1,800 for the sprint individual, P1,500 per head sprint relay, and P1,500 for the kiddie tri.
