Love teams and marriages

- ROGER SERNA

So it was not Angelica Panganiban who visited Cebu to thank moviegoers who were responsible for the surprise box-office success of That Thing Called

Tadhana. It was her leading man, JM de Guzman, who spent time with the E-Group shortly before his minishow at the SM City Cebu event center.

Matching his meek and smiling countenance is a very soft speaking voice, so soft that we had to crane our necks to hear his words clearly.

He’s so thankful to God for giving him a second bite at showbiz. He is likewise thankful to his family, whom he’s so proud of for staying with him in his high and low moments.

He’s one actor who loves to read. One of his many tattoos, called “circumpunct,” was derived from Dan Brown’s book, The Lost Symbol.

We ended the interview with a wish for him to go full throttle in his chosen career this time.

*** Von Saw’s music video entitled Sa Akong Heart speaks of young love, with high hopes that the girl he admires would end up as his wife. Yes, that early.

It has a catchy pop beat. Reports have it that the song is enjoying constant airplay on both AM and FM radio stations in Cebu due to numerous requests from Von’s growing followers.

Congratulations!

*** While the Fallen 44 continue to be in the limelight with the ongoing inquiry, another member of the police force, Mariano Perez Flormata Jr. (a.k.a. Neil Perez), gives honor to the country by winning the Mister International crown in Seoul, South Korea.

He made good on his vow to win the title as his tribute to the Fallen 44, some of whom were his colleagues in Batch Mabalasig.

It’s worthwhile to note that he spoke in Tagalog (with an interpreter) in the Q&A, proving that deficiency in English communication skills is not a barrier. Congratulations!

*** Dear friend Debbie Duraliza threw a belated birthday bash for her friends. We were in a cozy place somewhere in the uptown area.

The place was already full when we arrived, but more patrons still poured in, so that the management had to place tables right on the street side. We surmised that aside from the live music, the cold drinks and the ambience, it was the delectable food that kept the clients coming.

We so enjoyed the banter interspersed with spoonfuls of the sumsuman that I forgot I still had to watch the S Sense Band’s performance at the OsloBora Bar that same night.

Anyway, the group is slated to perform in the succeeding weekends, so no problem there. S Sense is composed of Michelle Nolasco, Lores Stella Gabiana, Pierre Jean Alfanta and Janice Montemayor.

*** Crazy Beautiful You is the next offering of Star Cinema. The post-Valentine treat has today’s hottest young love team, the Kathniel of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

Promo diva Josie Pereyra informed me that the duo is set to meet their fans once again at the SM City Cebu event center on Feb. 23. The movie will open nationwide Feb. 25.

I can imagine long queues of excited fans on opening day in malls all over the country.

*** At least three popular couples tied the knot on Valentine’s Day itself: Sen. Chiz Escudero and Heart Evangelista, Pinoy Dream Academy big winner Yeng Constantino and Victor Asuncion, and Cesca Litton and her non-showbiz husband.

They have a tall order ahead to disprove that marriages of people who are usually in the limelight don’t last long. Best wishes!
