THREE months before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meetings, the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) Board approved the proposed traffic rerouting plan for the activity.

Citom Executive Director Rafael Christopher Yap said that the traffic plan was also presented yesterday to the Cebu City Police Office, which heads the security cluster of Apeca.

Next week, the traffic plan will be submitted to the Apec local organizing committee headed by the Cebu Provincial Government.

A traffic rerouting dry run will also be conducted on July 17 to show the Apec national organizing committee that Cebu City is 100 percent ready as far as traffic management is concern to host some of the meetings, Yap said.

Under the traffic plan, public utility jeepneys ( PUJs) with routes near the meeting venues will be asked to take alternative roads.

Cebu City will hosts two venues which will be in Marco Polo Hotel in Barangay Lahug and Radisson Blu Hotel at the North Reclamation Area (NRA).

Juan Luna Ave. and S. Osmeña Blvd. will serve as Apec route since it will connect the two venues of the meetings, Yap said.

Road projects along Juan Luna Ave. and S. Osmeña Blvd. will not be allowed during the Apec.

PUJs from the north

can be used will have to take Logarta St. and Urot St. in going to Cabahug St.

While passing S. Osmeña Blvd., PUJs from the south and are bound for SM City Cebu Terminal will proceed to J. L Briones St., then U-turn at the end median island and back to their origin.

Aside from PUJ rerouting, several improvements still have to be made along the Apec route like recovery of sidewalks and installation of traffic signs, among others. RVC
