LGUs to get award for pro-poor programs
116 towns, 16 cities and four provinces in CV may vie for the 2nd Gawad Listahanan award
THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 will recognize local government units (LGUs) for providing services and assistance to the Listahanan-identified poor families through the 2nd Gawad Listahanan.
“Through this award, DSWD recognizes the LGUs’ efforts in providing social welfare and social protection services to the poor to help them achieve improved quality of life. We consider social protection and poverty reduction as a shared responsibility,” DSWD 7 Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat said.
Gawad Listahanan also aims to promote the convergence of all social protection stakeholders in effectively addressing the different aspects of poverty.
Qualified LGUs must have a memorandum of agreement with DSWD on Listahanan datasharing. The LGUs should also have locally-funded and implemented social protection program that provides direct service to the Listahanan-identified poor, such as scholarships, medi- cal assistance, and skills or livelihood trainings.
LGUs must be 100% compliant with the annual reportorial requirement of data-sharing as stipulated in the agreement.
The competing LGU will choose one (1) locally-funded program that uses Listahanan as basis for beneficiary selection as an official entry to the competition.
The contest has three categories: Municipal Government category, City Government category and Provincial Government category.
DSWD 7 invites the 116 municipalities, 16 cities as well as the four provinces in Central Visayas to participate and send their application form.
Application forms can be downloaded from the DSWD 7 regional website (www.fo7. dswd.gov.ph).
Acceptance of application form and the write-up for the official entry ends on Oct. 9, 2015.
The awarding ceremony will be held during DSWD’s 65th anniversary in January 2016.
