SPLC to hold Jubilee Run for 40th anniversar­y

AS PART of their 40th year anniversar­y celebratio­n, the St. Paul Learning Center (SPLC) has pick running as an activity to bring the school’s alumni and current students in one event. The event, the SPLC Ruby Jubilee Run, is slated on Oct. 3 at the Sumilon Road Cebu Business Park.

The event is open to other runners and it feauters the men’s and women’s 10-kilometer, 5K and 3K.

The 100-meter run and 1K Family Run are exclusive to the SPLC pre-school students and parents.

School principal Elma Ma Bergado told reporters during the Sports Communicat­ors Organizati­on of the Philippine­s (Scoop) program that this event will be for a cause.

The race will be for the benefit of SPLC’s outreach program as they officially joined the Adopt-A-School Program of the Department of Education. The proceeds will be used to help out their adopted school, which they have not chosen yet. The adopted schools will get assistance like school supplies and refurbishi­ng of classrooms from their adoptive private schools.

The school’s alumna Louie Villacin said that as a support to the grassroots running program of Cebu City, they will be fielding in at least 10 grassroots children in the open 3K race. Villacin, a triathlete, was one of the organizers of the Flame It Burger Run early this year which helped the grassroots kids.

The organizers of the SPLC Ruby Jubilee Run are expecting 1,000 runners on race day. For the parents alone, they said they have at least 500 participan­ts listed.

Race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running said that cash prizes will be given to the Top 5 runin the 5K and Top 10 runners in the 10K.
