The elegant embodiment
There is a certain poetry in being a woman. As dramatic as that may sound—from her physical attributes to her sharp wit, and the radiance that shines from the inside, out—women are and will always be regarded as fascinating mortals.
They continuously never fail to surprise anyone. When one thinks there is nothing left to discover, apparently, there is more than meets the eye. Because beyond all things physical, every woman is different.
Celebrating the embodiment of the woman, Valerie Alvez presents her designs that strongly reflect the many facets of femininity with each bold and delicate
creation. In honor of the female form, she dubs the collection Grace Under Pressure.
“Every design is a woman’s story. Every piece tells of a character, a feeling. I wanted each piece to relate to that person and for her to see all of herself wearing it,” she said.
These designs were shown at a private and intimate fashion show last month. Held at 856 G Gallery located at A.S. Fortuna St., Banilad, the locale augmented a certain charm and an added whiff of mystery to the event. The guest list comprised of photographers, friends from the media, some of Cebu’s well known fashion designers, together with Valerie’s family and close friends who all came to witness her first-ever solo show.
The fashion show overall featured nine kinds of evening wear and six bridal gowns. Unlike her previous creations, Valerie’s designs as seen during the fashion show imbued her personal preference and taste. “This time I wanted to do pieces that were really my taste and personal style,” she said. “Although I still adore drapings, I’ve always had this long time love affair with minimal, clean and classic pieces that evoke that luxe and elegant appeal.”
Apart from using materials like silk gazaar, alencon, chemical and chantilly lace, throughout the collection were some embellishments that gave off a romantic and elegant look packed with a novel feel. “I also made sure to put in a few modern touches to make it a bit sexy and flirty but never overdone,” she added.
This is a collection that empowers a woman to share one’s individuality as well as disposition through her designs. Also for Valerie, this fashion show (being it her first-ever solo show), was a symbolic way of saying that this is only the beginning.
