A lipstick for every occasion (Part 2)
Last week, Part 1 covered the lipstick bases for going to the office, a cocktail party or a bar. Here are some more suggestions for your lipstick wardrobe for wherever you might be going on any given day.
To the mall
If you’re going shopping or have errands to run, you want to wear comfortable clothes but also should not look sloppy. A red lipstick quickly dresses up the most basic T-shirt and shorts outfit and looks more modern with messy weekend hair. Think of all the celebrities and fashion bloggers who look on point with their red lipstick, even if they’re wearing a plain dress or baggy clothes.
To dinner with friends
I have made the mistake of wearing red lipstick to dinner a few times. No matter how long-wearing the product is, there’s always going to be some degree of mess involved when red lipstick comes in contact with food. Or, you have to eat very carefully so as not to mess up a red lip. Now is a good time to wear a mauve lip or the Kylie Jenner color you’ve been wanting to try. Friends will understand the trendiness of your mauvey brown color, and you can eat your pasta with no worries.
To a date
Some guys might not like the look of red lipstick because it can come off as high maintenance. Others don’t like lip gloss because it’s sticky. Try a grown-up pink with red tones in it for a look that says you made an effort to look nice, but didn’t try too hard. A sheer, long-wearing lipstick won’t leave a ring around the mouth even after lots of talking, eating or drinking. You want to be able to relax as much as possible and not constantly worry if your lip color has traveled across your face.
To a wedding
Coral is a lovely color to wear to a wedding, as it brightens up the face day or night, without calling too much attention to yourself (scratch this if you’re the bride!). Depending on your skin tone and eye makeup, choose one that’s either a bit more pink or a bit more peach.
