‘LP is backed by most mayors’

LP Cebu to have final slate on Sunday; One Cebu earlier said LP it won’t have easy time

CEBU Gov. Hilario Davide III said the Liberal Party (LP) in Cebu remained strong for it has the most number of local chief executives in the Province.

Davide, provincial chairman of LP-Cebu, told his critics and the opposition to mind their own business and just complete their own slate.

The LP in Cebu will have the final list of candidates by Sunday, a day before the filing of the certificate of candidacy will start.

“We believe in the strength of the LP, judging from the num- ber of local chief executives that we have, the mayors who are allies and plus, of course, our alliance with Bakud in the fifth district. So we believe we are strong in the province,” Davide told reporters.

He also dismissed reports that he and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, a Bakud member, might not be the same tandem that will run next year.

Speculations

Recently, speculations came out that the decision of Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) on who to support for president and vice president would affect the Davide-Magpale tandem.

Last month, Senators Grace Poe and Chiz Escudero met the leaders of Bakud.

Davide has been asking for the support of the mayors and other officials for LP presidential candidate Mar Roxas.

“The last time I heard, nagkastorya mi ganiha’ng buntag (we’ve talked this morning) on my way to the office, kami pa man (we remain as the tandem for governor and vice governor next year). I don’t know where that chismis came from,” the governor said yesterday.

Since the election is coming, he said there are those against him and other LP leaders who want to destroy them.

Davide said they will strive to be even stronger in the May 2016 election.

Big fight

Earlier, the One Cebu party said they have something to offer to LP and the election won’t be “a walk in the park” for them.

One Cebu will declare Winston Garcia’s runningmate and the full line-up on Sunday at the New White Gold House.

“This is election season karon gud, so tanang intriga mogawas gyud (all the intrigues will come out). It would be better that they just mind their own business. Magporma lang pud sila’g slate-slate sa mga munisipyo kung makaporma ba sila (They should not focus on coming up their own slate in every municipality if they can form one)” he said.

As to the Roxas and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo tandem, Davide believes they are a strong tandem.
