CCC starts bid in PAL Ladies golf

-

THE Cebu Country Club (CCC) starts its title bid in the 10th Philippine Airlines Ladies Interclub today as the first round of the Championship Division tees off at the soggy Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club, formerly Marapara, in Bacolod.

The CCC team finished second last year and was only one stroke behind the Southwoods Masters at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Cebu.

The Southwoods Mas- ters are gunning for its fifth straight title in this event, but CCC has other things in mind and will try to spoil its rival's title chase with Cebuana Lois Kaye Go leading the team.

“We still have a chance,” Go said early in CCC’s practice round yesterday. “We have been practicing hard for the past two months to prepare for this. We still like our chances.”

The CCC will enter the tournament prepared but it will not be an easy task for them as the defeding champion Southwoods Masters have put up a solid core led by veteran Lora Roberto, Missy Legaspi, Annika Guangko and playing captain Marie Claire Ong.

The centerpiece Championship Division and the Friendship event will play its first round today. Tomorrow, action in the Founders and Sportswriters Divisions will start with all four brackets to play their final rounds on Saturday.

Teams will be allowed to field eight players a day for two rounds, with the top six scores to in the event.

The three-day golf tournament blasted off yesterday with the traditional team captains’ meeting and ceremonial tee off. The golf fest is joined by 18 ladies’ golf teams from all over the country.
