Local book lovers’ dreams come true

- BY MONICA R. LOPEZ

To any book lover, the thought of meeting one’s favorite author is an absolute dream. For Cebuanos, that dream came to life as last Sept. 12 in Ayala Center Cebu, bookworms gathered at The Gallery of the new wing of the mall waiting in anticipation for their books to be signed by the three bestselling authors of the romance and new adult genre.

The three authors that visited the shores of Cebu were Colleen Hoover, who is the number one New York Times bestselling author for some of her works like the Slammed series, Hopeless series, Confess, and Ugly Love, which has a movie now in the works. Joining her were U.S.-based Filipino writer Christine Brae who wrote the books The Light in the Wound, His Wounded Light, Insipid, and Tarryn Fisher, the New York Times bestselling author of the Love Me With Lies series, Mud Vein and the Never Never series which is co-authored by Hoover.

When asked how all this came to be, Christine said, “We wanted to come here to the Philippines more to see the country. It just so happened that I was able to talk to a couple of people that were very interested in meeting Colleen and Tarryn and have us come for a signing.” When asked about the reaction of the announcement— knowing their fan base—all authors agreed that their most enthusiastic fans are based in the Philippines. Also looking back at the time of the news of their visit to the country, they could not believe the amount of response and attention it got.

The authors not only devoted their time signing books but also had a sit down interview to talk more about their books and other personal questions. Judging by the crowd that gathered at The Gallery that afternoon, it was plain to see that the fans have waited for a long time to see them. For Colleen, Christine and Tarryn, this is their way of thanking their fans for the endless support. (CONTRIBUTED FOTO)
