CPPO relieves Naga police chief after only one month in office

-

THE City of Naga will have a new police chief soon.

Chief Supt. Ricky Delilis was relieved from his post as police chief just a month after being assigned in Naga.

Delilis will be transferred to the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) and will be replaced by Supt. Jovito Canlapan.

Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong said CPPO Director Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac ordered Delilis’s relief as he was reportedly not satisfied with the performance of the city police chief.

While assigned in Naga for more than a month, Delilis led two anti-illegal drug operations.

Chiong said that a few days ago, Gillamac visited his office informing him of his decision to relieve Delilis.

Delilis’ relief was supposed to take effect on Oct. 1 but because he is involved in the security preparations for the city’s fiesta, Gillamac extended it until Oct. 12.

Chiong said that while he does not question Gillamac’s decision, he wants the CPPO director to appoint a permanent police chief.

“I pity the police chief. It seems I am the one responsible for his relief. He’s still new, I wouldn’t want him relieved from his post,” he said.

Chiong said he already sent a letter-request to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 to assign a permanent police chief in Naga.

In a separate interview, Delilis said that he has no choice but to follow the orders of his superiors.

“We police officials come and go. I am just here to follow orders,” he said.

Delilis said he would have wanted to implement some programs to curb crime in the city, including illegal drug activities.

He also wanted to organize an anti-crime task force in the city that would serve as “force multipliers,” as well as barangay intelligence units to assist the local police.

Before he was assigned in the City of Naga, Delilis was police chief of the cities of Carcar and Toledo.

The incoming police chief, Canlapan, was the chief of police of Daanbantayan town and Talisay City before being assigned in CPPO’s operations division.
