Alabang, Valley Golf takes lead

BACOLOD CITY—Alabang Golf Club and Valley Golf Club stormed into the lead in their respective divisions Thursday at the start of the 10th Philippine Airlines Ladies Interclub golf team championsh­ips at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club.

Alabang turned to Indonesian Rita Horan to open a 10-point lead over Camp Aguinaldo in the Founders division while Valley Golf took a commanding 24-point lead over the host club in the Sportswrit­ers class.

Horan, 33, scored 40 points, 14 points off regulation under the Molave scoring system. She got able support from Jang Eun Sil 37, Maria Josefina Gorres 36, Mary Jocelyn Garcia 36, Kim Hee Sun 35 and Marilyn Reyes 35. Christine Popp (34) and Joan Morales (29) did not count.

“I was playing okay until I hit the water on my approach on the 14th,” said Horan who took a pickup and finished with only five pars.

Aguinaldo tallied 209 points behind Rev Lizbeth Alcantara 44 points, Mabel Salivio 36, Josie Untal 36, Janeth Agripa 35, Arvi Lobangco 32 and Edlyn Robas 26.

Manila Golf was third with 197 points. Scoring for the team were Christine Naidoo 41, Mercedes Lorenzo 39, Marit Yuchengco 33, Lorna Tabuena 32, Karen Yang 29 and Maria Lourdes Gamboa 23.
