Star-studded Cebu

- ROGER SERNA

I have seen singer Selena Sevilla perform in at least two occasions. First, during the launching of Michel’s Wines at a popular night spot in Mandaue City where she

did a powerful rendition of Katy Perry’s Fireworks. Then she sizzled onstage at the Mr. and Ms. Press Freedom Week 2015 pageant last Sept. 19. For the clueless, Selena is the voice behind the song

Nilunok Ko Ang Lahat. She occasionally goes abroad for singing engagements.

Recently, Selena has “relocated” to Cebu. She and Lalen Calayan jointly manage the Calayan Medical Clinic at the Oakridge Business Center on A.S. Fortuna St. in Mandaue City.

Unknown to many, she’s a licensed aesthetician. She has so far attracted quite a clientele. This development earned for Selena the monicker The Singing Aesthetician.

Incidentally, Selena will be releasing a dance album soon still under Alpha Records. Just keep posted.

*** The past two weekends had been star-studded as far as Cebu stargazers are concerned. Jericho Rosales had his fans screaming and yelling to their hearts’ content as he performed in a mini concert at the SM City Cebu Northwing the other Sunday.

His Cebu trip was made possible by Kuya J Restaurant, which the Kapamilya actor is endorsing.

From the show, the actor proceeded to the resto where more fans gathered at the vicinity and some lined up as he signed copies of his album.

Winglip Chang, Nelson Yu and the other members of the group were on hand to welcome the endorser, the media and other guests.

Jericho, who played the role now played by Daniel Padilla in the remake of Pangako Sa ‘Yo, plays safe and refrains from comparing the remake from the original saying both runs enjoy the patronage of two different generations of televiewers.

Manila-based entertainment scribe Isah Red, a loyal fan of the Jericho-Kristine Hermosa tandem, however, made a fearless statement that the KathNiel Pangako will “never be able to beat” the Jericho-Kristine version. Jericho could only smile and say “Thank you!”

*** Claudine Barretto, Iza Calzado and Kim Chiu blew into town last Sept. 28 for the promo tour of Etiquette

for Mistresses. The three actresses defended their project against tirades that the movie is dignifying and glamorizing the role of mistresses.

Instead, the movie gives hints and tips to wives so that their husbands will not go astray, gives rules to mistresses on where and when to assert their rights and many others.

Kim said it would be better if people first refrain from judging the movie by its title and instead watch it then make the conclusion after. Why not?

*** Anjo Damiles, one of the actors of the teleseries

Doble Kara (with Julia Montes playing the lead role) on ABS-CBN, was Ms. Rosemarie Gaisano’s celebrity guest for the grand draw of “A Million Thanks Raffle Promo.” The draw was held at the Gaisano Balamban Town Center last Saturday.

The nephew of former Bb. Pilipinas titleholder Aileen Damiles, the 19-year-old actor entered showbiz as a commercial model and appeared in Forevermore and

Once Upon A Time.

He’s a senior in Southville International School in Las Piñas taking up Business Administration-Marketing. Becoming a showbiz personality has been his childhood dream.

*** Residents of Mactan Island and nearby areas really went out of their way to watch Alden Richards last Friday at the Gaisano Island Mall Mactan for the Kapuso Fans Day.

The audience was pegged at 10,000 to 15,000, so far said to be the biggest gathering on the island for a single event. Alden himself was awed at the big turnout saying “It’s unimaginable!”

Alden confessed that he becomes emotional every now and then especially at the sight of a huge crowd because it reminds him of his departed mother whose dream was to see him rise in the entertainment firmament.

He discourages his siblings from following in his footsteps knowing quite well how hard it is to be an actor considering the hardships behind the glamor.

He’s just very thankful to the Almighty and his now countless fans for patiently and whole-heartedly supporting him.

After staying at the sidelines with the likes of Dingdong Dantes, Aljur Abrenica and other GMA 7 stalwarts then, Alden’s time has finally arrived.
