MAN STABS CHECKERS RIVAL

CHECKERS is a mind game and a player focuses by being silent.

In Dalaguete, Cebu, however, a player blew his top after he accused his opponent of cheating last Saturday night.

Ireneo Villahermo­sa Duran, 41, allegedly stabbed his neighbor Cris Vincent Bretanico Dy, 24, in Sitio Palasero, Barangay Cawayan at past 9 p.m.

Dy suffered wounds in the neck and shoulder, police said.

Duran used a gaff of a rooster in attacking Dy, who was rushed by his relatives to the Dr. Ildefonso Alcantara Memorial Hospital in Barangay Poblacion, Dalaguete.

The victim was later transferre­d to a hospital in Cebu City for further medication.

A team composed of PO3 Leon Gesim and PO1 Sherwin Cejudo caught the suspect.

Three hours earlier, Placido Teleron Cañete was arrested after allegedly stabbing Noven Magla- sang Clarin, a person with disability, in Barangay San Rafael, Barili.

Cañete, 53, was drinking liquor with his friends outside his house before the crime happened.

A few moments later, Clarin, 24, arrived on his wheelchair and he accidental­ly hit the table.

The bottles of liquor spilled on the ground. This angered the suspect, who confronted Clarin.

Cañete went home and got a 24-inch-long bolo. He returned and struck the victim several times in different parts of his body.

PO2 Dan Villardar caught the suspect and recovered the bolo.

Clarin had sought treatment at the Barili District Hospital. His wounds were not serious, police said.

Meanwhile, Jube Jugan Tamis, 38, died after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a van driven by Benjie Solayao, 23, in Barangay Looc, Danao City last Saturday at 11:45 p.m.
