AYALA Center Cebu was cited as one of the advocates for the welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and received this year’s Apolinario Mabini Award as PWD-Friendly Establishment (Bronze Award).
The award was conveyed in recognition of the PWD-friendly facilities and services of Ayala Center Cebu in compliance with Batas Pambansa 344.
Over the years, Ayala Center Cebu has continued to uphold the dignity and respect for PWDs and foster a culture of inclusiveness through programs, activities and facilities designed for the PWD sector.
The mall’s expansion wing serves as a catalyst for Ayala Malls’ Ü-first cam- paign and Ayala’s commitment to create spaces that are accessible to all sectors of the society.
The mall has well-appointed PWD priority lanes in all basic amenities and services from taxi and transport terminals, food courts, cinemas, seating areas, elevators, parking slots, complimentary use of the customer and family lounges.
The awards ceremony was conducted in Heroes Hall, Malacañang Palace, Manila last Sept. 29, and was organized by the Philippine Foundation for Rehabilitation of the Disabled Inc. (PFRD) and the 2015 Apolinario Mabini awards committee.
The award was presented by Presi- dent Benigno S. Aquino III who was assisted by PFRD president Manuel Agcaoili, its chairperson Milagros Drilon and committee member Marides Almendras.
The awarding ceremony was attended by over 200 people, including government officials and PWD organizations.
The Apolinario Mabini Awards was first established by PFRD in 1974 to recognize individuals and groups that have supported and helped the PWD sector.
The award was named after one of the country’s foremost heroes, Apolinario Mabini, also known as the sublime paralytic. His disability was not a hindrance to his creative genius that provided inspiration to the Philippine revolution.
