Rep. Gwen’s b-day bash
SHOW. When Rep. Gwen Garcia (Cebu, 3rd district) marked her 60th birthday last Oct. 12, a delightful show, directed by Victor Hao Cuenco, completely surprised her. More so because the entertainers were just her family members, relatives and some close friends, not necessarily professional performers. The venue— Circa 1900 in Lahug—was so appropriate for the happy occasion. The so-called who’s who of Cebu came to the party.
TOUCHING. Paulo, the birthday lady’s firstborn and only son, delivered a very nice welcome message before the buffet-style dinner started. In the program proper, there was a very touching video presentation about Representaive Garcia while daughters Christina and Carissa and daughter-in-law Michelle sang a ballad.
OTHERS. The other entertainment numbers were presented by two Sinulog Idol singing competition champions, the Cebu Normal University Youth Choir and five of Representative Garcia’s close friends led by Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung. Yeung’s group sang Buttercup and That’s What Friends Are For. The Renaissance band provided nonstop disco and ballroom music for the rest of the evening.
BLESSING. Let me congratulate the management and staff of dyPC 91.9 FM on the blessing of its studios and facilities inside the Mandaue City College in Basak, Mandaue City. No less than Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Villarojo blessed them after celebrating the Holy Mass to mark the feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, the college’s patron saint. Station owner Dr. Paulus Mariae Cañete deserves our commendation for establishing this campus-based broadcast outfit.
PLAN. The Cebu chapter of the Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc. plans to feature singing broadcaster Dante Luzon in a fund-raising concert in December. More on this next Monday.
