MORE CEBU BRANCHES FOR CALAYAN

Calayan Medical Group to open three aesthetic and wellness centers by first quarter

-

FOUR months since it formally opened in Cebu, the Calayan Medical Group Inc. announced that it is gearing up for triple expansions by the first quarter of 2016.

In an interview yesterday, Lalen Calayan, the company’s operations manager and business development head, said three aesthetic and wellness centers are set to open within the period in “strategic locations” within Cebu City.

However, these will not be mallbased, as the company wants to maintain privacy and establish a reposeful amibiance to clients, stressed Dr. Maybel Calayan, a dermatologist and the company’s deputy medical director.

Each aesthethic and wellness center would require around 10 nurses and aestheticians. “We have received a good response from the local market even if we just opened months ago. It’s overwhelming,” the Calayans told Sun.Star Cebu.

The Calayans described Cebuanos as “wise beauty spenders.”

The Calayan Medical Group maintains its first clinic in Cebu at the Oakridge Business Park on AS Fortuna St. in Mandaue City.

On average, the Calayan Center in Oakridge accommodates 20 clients a day, availing of full-service offerings like body and facial treatments.

In the weeks of October, however, there were less customers frequenting the place because of the major road works along AS Fortuna, which is making the road less accessible to the public, Lalen said.

Services most availed of include deepcleansing facial, anti-ageing facial, and gluthathione treatments, said aesthetics and wellness head Selina Sevilla.

Meanwhile, the Calayan Medical Group is also sought for its reconstructive or “repair” surgeries.

Majority of the cases involve women who underwent unsuccessful or faulty surgeries from other doctors, concering mostly nose and breast parts.

The Calayans advised the public to “double check” their doctors.

“We advise the public to really be careful when they go for surgeries. They should be sure that they are dealing with boardcertified surgeons and that their implants are US-FDA approved,” Lalen said.

At present, the Calayan Medical Group has 15 board-certified surgeons.

The Calayan family first opened a hospital in Lucena City in Quezon in the 1960s, which formally started the Calayan family business. However, it was in the 1990s, according to Lalen, when the name was more prominently attributed to cosmetics than on the medical industry.

In Cebu, the Calayan Medical Group operates four departments: the stem cell therapies or regenerative medicine, the plastic and reconstructive surgery, dermatology, and aesthetic and wellness.

Most of the clients in Cebu include young mothers and BPO workers.
