Inmate in Carmen escapes prison through ceiling

-

Escapee recaptured in his house

A SUSPECT in a rape case took advantage of a concert going on in a neighboring building and escaped from the detention cell of Carmen Police Station last Friday.

PO3 Jerome Arpon Quimque, who was on duty as jailer, gave chase but failed to capture the escapee because he fell into a hole.

The escapee was identified as recapture Dioniso Duterte Castro.

A police team led by station officer-incharge Senior Insp. Alexander Nuñez recaptured the suspect last Saturday night.

SPO2 Simplicio Gibo said the suspect was found in his home in Barangay Cambanay, Danao City.

Castro’s trial is pending before the Regional Trial Court Branch 25 in Danao City.

Minor

His case is non-bailable because the victim is a minor. He will be presented to court, which will issue an order to transfer him to a facility run by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

Last Friday, Quimque was doing a head count in the detention cell and found out that Castro was missing. He didn’t know that Castro was hiding in the ceiling.

The suspect jumped from the ceiling and ran outside the police station. Quimque shouted at Castro to stop, but the latter kept on running and climbed the fence.

The police officer tried to run after the suspect but he fell into a hole. Castro’s escape happened while there was concert at the nearby Carmen Multi-Purpose building, which the duty alert team secured for crowd control.

Quimque was the only officer inside the police station at that time.
