Company building waste-to-power facility in Naga
A FACILITY that can produce electricity using biodegradable waste will soon rise in the City of Naga, southern Cebu.
The FDR Group of Companies, a solid waste management company based in the City of Naga, recently started constructing its dry anaerobic digester (DAD) biogas plant in Barangay Pangdan.
Margot Omega, FDR project development manager, told Sun.Star Cebu that the facility will be the first of its kind in the country.
The plant will convert the biodegradable portions of municipal waste collected by the FDR Group to renewable energy.Omega said that around 50 percent of the municipal waste they collect from their clients is biodegradable.
With service contracts with the Cities of Naga and Carcar and the municipality of Minglanilla, FDR collects around 120 tons of garbage daily.
Omega said that if the amount of biodegradable waste they collect on a daily basis is insufficient, they can always coordinate with industries in the City of Naga to provide them with more biodegradable waste.
To help support the construction and operation of the plant, FDR Group of Companies led by their president, Fulgencio Revalde, signed a loan agreement with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) last year.
The signing was witnessed by officials of the DBP, the City Government of Naga and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 7.
In a statement, Revalde said that the DAD biogas plant is already a registered project under the Department of Energy (DOE) Renewable Energy Program.
They have a technical partnership with IUT-GmbH, a company based in Austria with more than 30 years of experience in waste management.
The plant, officials said, will be commissioned before the end of 2016.
