Farmers receive post-harvest equipment
IT WAS a farmers’ day in Capitol yesterday as the Provincial Government distributed P4.3-million worth of postharvest equipment to farmers’ organizations, and another P3 million in cash as honorarium covering the last quarter of 2015 and first quarter of 2016 of 250 farmer-scientist training program (FSTP) barangay coordinators.
“The Provincial Government will support programs of farmers through FSTP,” Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said.
Davide said barangay coordinators receive P2,000 monthly from the provincial government through the Provincial Agriculture office Head Roldan Sarajena.
The governor said these coordinators oversee farmers organizations through FSTP. Coordinators yesterday came from Cebu District 1, District 2, District 3, Dis- trict 4, District 5 and District 7.
Davide, who led the turn-over with agriculture consultant Dr. Romulo Davide, in yesterday’s FSTP consultative meeting, said the delay was due to the election ban and the failure of coordinators to submit their accomplishment reports. Coordinators only submitted photocopy of their reports, but the accounting office requires them to submit the original report, said the governor.
Post-harvest equipment includes 20 cornmills, 10 moisture meters, 15 weighing scales and 15 outdoor corn storage.
Capitol called for a consultative meeting of the FSTP provincial management team and FSTP barangay coordinators and a ceremonial distribution of post-harvest machinery and equipment.
The consultative meeting was held at the Capitol social hall while the turnover of machinery and equipment was held at the Capitol basketball court.
