Israeli school kids join Robotics Olympiad in Cebu
TWENTY-FOUR students from the “Startup Nation” of Israel are in the Philippines to participate in the First Lego League (FLL) Trash Trek Challenge held in LapuLapu City.
The four-day competition started on June 1 to 4.
In joining the competition, the students from Rabin Elementary School and Ish Shalom showed their robotics skills, and brought the spirit of creativity and innovation that makes Israel the Startup Nation.
The FLL Philippine Islands Invitational 2016 aims to inspire future scientists and engineers by designing and building an autonomous robot that can resolve environmentrelated problems.
The students and their mentors and school officials comprise a group of 50 first-time Israeli visitors to the Philippines.
Deputy Chief of Mission Hadass Nisan said the participation of the Israeli students in the robotics competition is an opportunity for the startup nation of Israel and the emerging economy of the Philippines to further strengthen its cooperation in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Israel, the Startup Nation, has the highest num- ber of start-ups in IT after Silicon Valley. The ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship defines what Israel is today.
Israel has become renowned globally as the “Startup Nation.” Trailblazing startups from Waze and Wix to PrimeSense and Mobileye have helped Israel gain its reputation as an international hub of entrepreneurship and hi- tech ingenuity.
More than 270 multinational corporations have established more than 320 advanced R&D facilities throughout Israel, making Israel an “R&D Lab” for the world’s leading tech firms. These include Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Intel, Yahoo!, Motorola, HP, Siemens, GE, GM, IBM, Cisco and many more.
