While waiting, we’ve #GoT a recap for you

-

Game of Thrones ended exactly a week ago. What do fans do now? Wait for 10 months before the next season, which by the way, will only consist of seven episodes. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss confirmed there will only be 13 episodes left for the entire show—seven episodes for season seven and six episodes for the final season. Fans are used to getting 10 one-hour episodes a season.

“It’s two more seasons we’re talking about. From pretty close to the beginning we talked about doing this in 70-75 hours and that’s what we’ll end up with. Call it 73 for now,” Benioff told Deadline magazine.

“We’ve known the end for quite some time and we’re hurtling towards it. Daenerys is finally coming back to Westeros, Jon Snow is king of the North, Cersei is sitting on the Iron Throne and we know the Night King is up there, waiting for all of them. The pieces are on the board now. Some of the pieces have been removed from the board and we are heading toward the end game.”

With 10 months to go before the second to the last season of the hit television show, here’s a rundown of some of the season six deaths to help ease that

Game of Thrones withdrawal. Some of these deaths were well-deserved. Ramsay Bolton

Ramsay Bolton is easily the most hated character on Game

of Thrones: He cut off the most important part of Theon Greyjoy then raped his wife Sansa Stark. Ramsay makes King Joffrey Baratheon look like a saint.

The on-screen character is even worse than the one in George R.R. Martin’s books. This is largely due to actor Iwan Rheon’s portrayal.

Rheon originally auditioned to be Jon Snow and made it to final stage where it was between him and Kit Harington. Harington won the role, of course. But the show’s creators saw something in Rheon so they offered him a role similar yet opposite to the first character he auditioned for. Jon and Ramsay were both bastards but rose to a position no bastard ever did. But while Jon is a character known for his integrity—he saved wildlings even if these are enemies; Ramsay is evil to the core.

Ramsay had the most gruesome death this season with the help of his pet hounds, and right in front of his wife Sansa. Tommen Baratheon

Some Game of Thrones nerds have predicted the death of Tommen Baratheon. But nobody ever predicted how it would happen. Crowned king Tommen jumped off his chambers after watching the Sept— where his wife Queen Margaery was—explode upon orders of his mother Cersei.

The death was bittersweet. Nobody wanted sweet and innocent Tommen to die. But the fans hooted knowing that this will kill Cersei inside. While everybody knows Cersei is cunning and mean, no one can argue that she loves her children very much— including the terrible eldest child Joffrey. Walder Frey

Various Game of Thrones reaction videos show that Walder Frey’s death this season was the most cheered scene from the finale episode. It’s not just because Walder was a vile character, but also because of how it was done.

Arya Stark has a kill list and the people responsible for the death of her mother Catelyn and brother Robb are on it. But not anymore. She killed Walder and his two sons—Black Walder, who killed Caitlyn, and Lothar, who killed Robb’s wife Talisa—to avenge her family from the Red Wedding. She also had this to say to Walder: “The last thing you’re ever going to see is a Stark smiling down at you as you die.”

Fans call it the most satisfying kill on Game of Thrones ever. And that’s saying a lot considering the history of the show. Rickon Stark

Like Tommen, a lot of fans predicted Rickon Stark’s death. But not like how it happened. Rickon was so close to reuniting with half-brother (at least that’s the relationship they are aware of) Jon Snow. But Ramsay shot an arrow through Rickon’s heart just seconds away from Jon.

The sad part was that Rickon was absent in seasons four and five, and in season six, he didn’t even have a single line. The Tyrells: Margaery, Loras, Mace

It’s quite unfair how Margaery died considering she knew it was coming. If only the High Sparrow listened to her, she would have lived. Even actress Natalie Dormer blames Margaery’s death to the High Sparrow.

Margaery and Cersei have always had an intense rivalry in the show. But more often than not, Margaery outwits Cersei. But not this time—not when it mattered the most. While she may have realized what Cersei was up to, it was too late.

“Margaery’s been battling Cersei for the last however many years and she ends up dying on the show not because she didn’t beat Cersei, but because she trusted that someone else— the Sparrow—was handling her. She had the reins taken away from her, from being in control of the situation; the High Sparrow took the reins and it proves that he underestimated Cersei in a way that Margaery never would have,” said Dormer of her character.

Loras Tyrell’s death did not have as much impact. Probably because his death was lumped with Margaery’s and the High Sparrow’s making him an after-thought.

Mace even had less of an impact than Loras. Mace was too dumb to survive the game anyway. Hodor

Fans finally learned why he only said “Hodor.” And on the same breath, Hodor died.

Hodor is the only person this season who didn’t have a cause to die. Ramsay Bolton and Walder Frey deserved to die. Rickon died because he didn’t zigzag while running toward Jon Snow.

But innocent and kind Hodor never hurt anybody and only did as he’s told. High Sparrow

Choosing a side between the High Sparrow and Cersei is like choosing between Bad and Evil. Still, fans cheered the death of the High Sparrow especially since it was done in an epic way. The audience actually saw the moment the High Sparrow went kaput.

It was satisfying for fans to see the High Sparrow go… until they realized it was in the hands of Cersei. So who triumphed? Bad or evil? Shaggydog and Summer

Shaggydog and Summer joined their siblings Lady and Grey Wind in dog heaven. With four down, Ghost and Nymeria are the only Stark direwolves alive. Fans were wondering where Ghost was relaxing while owner Jon Snow was battling Ramsay Bolton in the Battle of the Bastards. He was also absent when Jon was declared King in the North.

Fans are also awaiting the reunion of Arya and Nymeria.
