Global animal nutrition leader Cargill and Cebu-based Excelsior Farms Inc., a nucleus farm under the supervision of PIC Philippines, recently entered an agreement that sees Cargill deliver high-quality and nutritious animal feed for Excelsior’s breeder and slaughter pigs to produce quality pork for the expanding markets of Cebu and the Visayas. The agreement was signed during the 6th INAHGEN Farmers Congress at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City last February 25, 2016. Signatories include Cargill Feed and Nutrition General Manager, Stephanie Quah; Excelsior President, Paul Holaysan; Excelsior Chief Finance Officer, Alvin Hing; and PIC Philippines Business Development and Strategic Marketing Manager, Dr. Fermin Barrenechea. The agreement allows Cargill to serve Excelsior Farms’ feed requirements by providing high quality nutrient specifications of its Purina®ProFarm brand of livestock feeds to produce high health and quality pigs to serve the growing pork supply chain in central and southern Philippines. “This partnership reaffirms the high level of trust people in the industry give to our animal nutrition products. We shall work even more to meet their expectations,” said Sonny Catacutan, Cargill Feed and Nutrition Philippines’ Business Development Director. Excelsior Farms gets its breeder animals from PIC, the international leader in providing genetically superior pig breeding stock. While Excelsior operates a wean-to-finish system, its breeders serve as the nucleus and multiplier farm of PIC in supplying highly prolific GGP, GP and parent gilts, boars and semen to its customers across the country. Excelsior uses modern and environmentally -conscious facility at a 17-hectare farm site in southwest Cebu carefully selected for its excellent biosecurity requirements necessary for a nucleus and multiplier farm. Working together, Cargill will safeguard consistency in feed and ingredient supply which is needed to balance factors that lead to better profitability, delivering best cost inputs for Excelsior to bring optimum solutions for mutual success. Cargill, through its Purina® ProFarm products and services define partnerships for extraordinary success with PIC and Excelsior through constant collaboration and the achievement of shared goals. Production efficiency targets include obtaining 700g ADG (average daily gain weight) from birth up to 100kg, 70% selection index rate, and 30MSY (marketable hogs sold per sow per year). Through this partnership, Cargill will work together in helping people and organizations in the swine industry thrive.
