ICCP seeks ratification of ATA Carnet system in PH
MANILA -- The International Chamber of Commerce Philippines (ICCP) has sought the ratification of ATA Carnet system in the country, which is beneficial in showcasing locally-made products abroad.
ICCP founder and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) chairman emeritus Francis Chua has urged the new administration to ratify the ATA Carnet or also known as the “passport for goods” and “passport to international trade”.
ATA Carnet facilitates duty-free and tax-free temporary export and import of goods within member countries for up to one year.
This system is considered helpful for businesses participating international exhibits as this eliminates the need to purchase temporary import bond.
Chua said this will engage more Filipino businesses to join international exhibits and will attract international organizations to hold their exhibits in the Philippines.
He stressed that the Philippines is among the few countries that is not implementing the ATA Carnet system.
“Once the Philippines will be able to do it, we will be at par with other countries, as it will generate interest in the Philippines,” the ICCP founder said.
For the ratification of ATA Carnet, Chua explained that the Bureau of Customs has to endorse it to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) then the DFA will endorse it to Congress.
In June, Chua went to São Paulo, Brazil to attend the official ratification of Philippines’ membership to ICC.
ICC is the world’s largest business organization which involves in activities such as rule setting, dispute resolution, and policy advocacy.
ICC also has a seat in the World Trade Organization.
