Aguirre to DOJ employees: Report colleagues involved in corruption

According to the new justice secretary, he will prioritize the marching orders issued by President Duterte, namely: solving graft and corruption, antiillegal drug activities, and heinous crimes

-

JUSTICE Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has reiterated his support for President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s call to crackdown corruption in the government agencies by encouraging its employees to report officials involved in corruption.

In the flag raising ceremony at Department of Justice (DOJ) yesterday, Aguirre once again warned DOJ employees and said that he will not think twice in investigating officials involved in corruption.

Aguirre said that solving corruption is included in the marching orders of Duterte.

He also said that the new presi- dent told him that corruption in the judiciary is “unacceptable.”

Aguirre said that the DOJ office will be open to any complaint against corrupt officials in the department.

Just last month, news about the so called “midnight resolution” circulated the media.

The “midnight resolution” is the act of reversing and rewriting DOJ rulings and selling it for “millions of pesos,” which Filipino Alliance for Transparency and Empowerment (Fate), an anticorruption watchdog, termed as “padulas” or “grease money.”

Former justice secretary Emmanuel Caparas, however, denied the allegations.

In a press conference before he stepped down from his post, he challenged all who accused him to present evidences that will prove their claim.

The newly-installed justice secretary said he already received complaints against corrupt offi- cials in the DOJ.

But according to him, those were just mere allegations.

“We know that already. But of course at this stage, what we receive are all allegations. There is no document given to me,” Aguirre told reporters last Friday.

According to Aguirre, he will prioritize the marching orders given by Duterte.

These include solving graft and corruption, anti-illegal drug activities, and heinous crimes.

“I have three marching orders: to solve graft and corruption, anti illegal drug activities, and heinous crimes,” Aguirre said. ( Keith Calayag/Sunnex)
