Cebu Province to stage fun run, futsal tourney

CEBU Province together with the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) will host two events in line with activities of the 447th Cebu Province Founding Anniversary.

The 447th Cebu Province Founding Anniversary Run will take place on Aug. 28 at the Cebu Provincial Capitol for the benefit of the grassroots sports program of CPSC.

The race has six categories— the local 20-kilometer, foreign 20K, 10K local, 5K grassroots, 3K grassroots and 5K employees. The grassroots and Capitol employees are free of charge.

Cash prizes are at stake to the winners in all the categories. The winners in the local and foreign 20K will win P10,000 each, while the winners in the 10K local and capitol employees will get P5,000. The 5K grassroots will get P3,000 and the 3K winners will get P2,000. Cash prizes and medals to those who make the Top 10 in all categories.

“We intend to do this event every year. The plan of Gov. Hilario Davide III is to continue and expand the grassroots program,” said Atty. Ramil Abing, the executive director of CPSC.

Aside from the run, the CPSC will also hold the 1st Anniversary Futsal Tournament on Aug. 13 to 14 at the Minglanilla Sports Center. The futsal tournament is in coordination with the Cebu Football Association (CFA).

The futsal competition will have three divisions—the Girls 15-under, Boys 15-under and the mixed under-11.

One of the organizers Eleazar Toledo said that they will be inviting 20 teams from the Province of Cebu and are eyeing Mandaue City, Talisay City, Barili, Balamban, Argao, Dumanjug, Lilo-an, Consolacion, Danao City and Carmen, among others.

Brando Velasquez, the Administrative Officer III of CPSC, said that the two sporting events are part of the sport development on the grassroots level.

He said that the grassroots sports program of the Provinces is geared on athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, karatedo, tennis, volleyball, softball, baseball and football.

Meanwhile, the registration for the 447th Founding Anniversary Run is now ongoing. Registration fee for the 20K local or foreign is at P500 and P300 for the 10K local category.

Entry forms are available at the Cebu Provincial Office, 2nd Floor of tte Legislative Bldg., Capitol Compound, Cebu City and Cebu City Sports Center.
