CEBUANA BOWLER IN WORLD GAMES

CEBUANA bowler Xyrra Cabusas scored an average of 179 and was ranked 29th in the women’s singles (Squad A) in the 14th World Youth Bowling Championsh­ips, which started last July 24 and will run until Aug. 3 at the Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The 21-year-old of Team Prima-Cebu scored 1,079 in six games for an average of 179.83.

Cabusas had a best score of 214 in the second game and followed it up with 204 in the next game. She fired 187 and 182 in the fourth and fifth game after a slow 111-start. Cabusas capped off the singles’ event with 181.

Cabusas of University of San Carlos was the highest female scorer for team Philippine­s in the singles event; her teammate Rica Macatula was not far behind at 179.33 and was No. 31 in the women’s singles (Squad A).

Sweden’s Filippa Persson topped the eliminatio­n in the women’s singles with average of 231.67 and was followed by Americans Bond Julia and Gazmine Mason with 230.50 and 223.33, respective­ly.

In the men’s singles, PHL Youth Team’s Gospel Gahol hit a total of 1,137 with an average of 189.50. Gahol, who had a best of 212 in fourth game, was ranked 26th in the men’s (Squad A). Louis Miguel Cantorna carded 1,009 with an average of 168.17 and was ranked 42nd. The players in the tournament were divided to squads A and B for the women while A to C for the men.

The men’s and women’s singles event semis and finals will be played today. The players who have moved on to the semis were not yet posted on the event’s page as of press time.

The eight-man PHL Youth Team will still play the doubles event on Friday and team-of-four event on Sunday.

The delegation has two Cebuanos on the roster, Cabusas and GJ Buyco. The other players are Macatula, Gahol, Cantorna, Ivan Malig, Bea Hernandez and Rjoy Santos.

The 14th World Youth Bowling Championsh­ips has 209 participan­ts from 37 countries.
